Carnival, Brazil’s most famous holiday, has become an event of huge proportions, drawing 4.9 million people to Rio de Janeiro in 2011. The festival, a farewell to undesirable things, features percussion, dancing, and costumes in lively parades led by samba schools. The Brazilian influence in American jazz can be traced to 1962, when Stan Getz earned a first Grammy for his recording of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Bossa Nova hit, “Desafinado.”
Come and experience the music of Brazil as Ludmilla and Marcello, duo extraordinário, pay tribute to their homeland in the final Parlor Jazz concert of the season. Vivacious interpretations of songs by Jobim, Elis Regina, Joaõ Gilberto, and Caetano Veloso, as well as Bossa Nova renditions of American songs by the Beatles and Burt Bacharach, will bring the warmth of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival to Bridgehampton. They will be joined by Parlor Jazz hosts pianist Jane Hastay and bassist Peter Martin Weiss in a true Bossa Nova/Jazz celebration.
